The Groves & Co. Funeral Home and Ambulance Service of Flint, MI operated three 1977 Lifeliners, purchsed new from Dennis Distributors, an M - M dealer in Flint. The original order was placed for six Miller - Meteor Cadillacs. After delivery of the first three the service did not expand as anticipated with the City of Flint operating a transporting ambulance service. The remaining three ambulances were never delivered to Groves. One of the additional three Groves cars is known to have been delivered to Midland County EMS in Midland, Michigan. Another was delivered to Quick Ambulance of Detroit, Michigan. Groves operated from
1977 through the mid 80's.
After closing its doors, the funeral home was purchased and operated as Sharp - Swartz, who continued to provide ambulance service however, using vans. The Cadillacs were liquidated by Dennis Distributors.
Following a parting of company by Roger Sharp and Harry Swartz, the Swartz Funeral Home of Grand Blanc, MI. continues to operate Flint's busiest Ambulance service.
The Groves building still stands at the corner of Garland and Third St. in Flint. Serving the community as a Rescue Mission today, the interior has been remodeled and altered, the exterior remains relatively unchanged.
